Lots of warm wishes for 2012! I just moved back to Los Angeles several months ago, bought my first house getting settled in and back to the grind and negotiating contracts to get back into the recording studio and continue what I love to do. It has not been an easy journey but my true fans keep me motivated and I appreciate your continued support.

Iranian regime has "officially banned" Valentine's Day stating "Symbols of hearts, half-hearts, red roses, and any activities promoting this day are banned," announced state media last month. "Authorities will take legal action against those who ignore the ban."... Celebrating Valentine's Day can be difficult when your country continues to ban mingling of the men and women (unless married or are immediate family), rap music, rock music, Western music, women singing and being in bands, nail polish, make-up, etc etc etc. But since 70% of Iran's population remains under the age of 30, I am sure they will find ways of getting around it, like they have in the past. We have a beautiful country, culture and people that we should celebrate love for it all.

I have had a very tough December preparing for 2011. A new year, new collaborations, new music, and new projects. I have been recording, writing, and planning my album like crazy, with my new producer who I will introduce to you in a few weeks. We will be doing a lot of viral videos, bringing you all into the studio with us, so you can go through the process of making my album, with me, as if you are there. I love you all, I thank you for the support, and here is a toast to an amazing year ahead...Shabnam.

I am dedicating this blog entry to Brandee, one of my amazing dancers featured in my last music video for my single "Age Ghalbamo Shekasti". I just recently made a trip to LA to handle some music business, in my free time, I hit the streets of Beverly Hills to check out my favorite stores on Rodeo drive for an event that night. I fell in love with this Versace dress in the window (pictured above), which was tagged for almost $2000! But, I was lucky that I packed my $200 Plastic Island dress (pictured below), that looked almost exactly like the dress in the window! When you are funding your own album, every penny counts ;)

NY Fashion Week & Broadway

My trip to NYC was busy, but fun. During Fashion Week, I was able to witness the much anticipated Spring 2011 collection from Chadwick Bell, a friend and fashion icon in the making. The inspiration of his collection was "the desert" inspired by a recent trip by photographer Gigi Stoll. This last look (pictured above) was a stunning burka inspired gown which transcends cultures & shares the beauty of desert life...and yet, the model was holding a [Catholic] rosary. And of course, I absolutely had to hit the streets of Broadway to train at the world famous Broadway Dance Center. I learned some new choreography from the best in the biz, and learned vocal techniques from coaches to Broadway shows' best performers. I'm getting back in the studio soon, so this training really got me inspired and ready to finish my album. boosetun mikonam -SJ

This explains a lot...right? ;) There's something about the strings and wa-wa basst hat make me go crazy over 70s music. I love it and I will revive it.

In Iran, clothing and hair seem to be the ONLY outlet that young men and women use to subliminally rebel in public, without really doing anything. But really? A law? What's next, men have to wear a hejab (hair scarf)? lol. The new cuts are based on "law and culture" of the Iranian society. yikes.

Appreciating the art of the classics

My favorites!

I was very excited that one of my favorite charities, the Bay Area Crisis Nursery (BACN) was throwing their annual Casino Grande event at the Blackhawk Auto Museum. Although the evening was surrounded by luxory, it wasn't easy to hold back tears hearing the success stories from nursery director, Sister Ann. The BACN is such an amazing resource for families/parents who want to provide a temporary home for their children, while they work through difficult situations like losing their job and home. The nursery provides 24 hr residential care for up to 30 days in a homelike environment where the children receive clothing, food, toys, and lots of love at no cost. It's comforting to know that there are recourses available when needed. www.BACN.info

My NFL and NBA Experience

I have so many amazing memories from my dance team days in NFL and NBA. It was always a great outlet for me to perform in front of thousands of people in sold out arenas and stadiums. My family was always supportive because they knew I was gaining experience doing what I loved to do. For now, I've traded in my pom-poms for a microphone, and I am taking everything I've learned straight to the stage with me.
